Team Member Spotlight

Part two of the series which features the amazing and talented people behind team Gravity PDF.

Meet Debbie.

Welcome to episode two in our blog series about the hard-working and talented people behind Gravity PDF. Today’s spotlight is on Debbie Ellis: a full stack JavaScript developer who spends most of his time deep in React, Redux, Middleware and Sagas.😄 Like all of us at Gravity PDF, Debbie is a full-time remote worker.

Let’s find out more about Debbie in his spotlight interview below!🧐

What is your role at Gravity PDF?

I am a software developer specialising in JavaScript.

What drew you to Gravity PDF originally?

I’ve been freelancing for over a decade and eventually got tired of doing short-term projects. I wanted something more stable, so when I was offered a position at Gravity PDF I didn’t think twice.

Have your expectations changed after 12 months?

Time flies when you’re having so much fun with what you’re doing! I was both happy and surprised when I hit the 12-month milestone with the company. My initial expectations were met, and I’m definitely looking forward to the years ahead.

If you could do another job for just one day, what would it be?

Fishing. I’d be a fisherman floating right out there in the middle of the deep blue sea.

How is this job helping your career development?

It’s helping me to keep track of the latest trends on different programming languages and technologies, which I am able to apply to my work.

What is your motto or personal mantra?

“The world needs who you were made to be.”

What has been your favourite project?

So far, the Gravity PDF Bulk Generator extension which we’re aiming to release in the next month (don’t hold me to that). This project enables me to showcase my skills: from the actual software development engineering, to creating automated tests that validate each function performs as designed.

If you could switch your job with anyone else within Gravity PDF, whose would it be?

Anyone from the Bespoke Templates team as they work directly with clients building automated custom PDFs.

If you were stuck on an island what three things would you bring?

Food 🍱, tent ⛺️, and a book 📖.

What do you find the most challenging part of your position?

Keeping up with the latest development for all the different technologies we’re using. It can feel like the wild west out there!

What is your proudest moment with Gravity PDF?

When I successfully handled the onboarding process of the company’s first few employees.

Given a chance, who would you like to be for a day?

Julius Caesar.

Tell us three things most people don’t know about you…

  1. I always capitalise the word GOD as a sign of respect.
  2. I don’t like horror films.
  3. My favourite colour is green.💚

What’s a food dish you can eat every day for one whole week?

Aged ham.

How do you balance your career and social life?

At work, I focus on my tasks and steer clear of social media and text messages. Outside of that, I like to spend time with my friends or go to the gym for a good workout.

What have you got back personally from working at the company?

I’ve become more passionate about coding.

What three words best describe you?

Joyful. Upbeat. Simple.

What music is on your laptop/phone?

Mostly fingerstyle guitar covers of alternative love songs.

What would be the title of your autobiography?

In the Process
