Meet Jestoni.

In episode four of our Team Spotlight series, we interviewed Jestoni Sumande, a full-time Back-End developer at Gravity PDF. The team calls him Jes. He’s happily married and a proud father to two kids. Jes has been a software developer for an astonishing 12 years 😮 and working remotely for eight of those years. He’s had careers in a variety of different industries, including construction and factory work. Like all of the Gravity PDF workforce, Jes is trained in multiple roles. He can handle product development one day, and jump over to Bespoke projects the next.

When did you become a developer?

 April 2008.

Three words to describe who you are.

Fun. Empathetic. Goal-oriented. 

What is it like being a remote worker/developer?

I get to spend more time with my family. Also, goodbye traffic. 👋

If you could do another job for a day, what would it be?

A Marine Biologist.

How has Gravity PDF helped you as a developer?

I’ve learned to set goals and how to always leave room for improvement.

Motto or personal mantra?

Go with the flow. 🌊

What are three words to describe Gravity PDF?

Exciting. Fun. Formal.

How do you define success?

Success is finding your inner peace.

What do you find the most challenging part of your position?

The transition from agile to waterfall environment.

Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us.

I’m afraid of needles.

What has been your favourite project?

Gravity PDF 6.0 System Status.

What is your favorite thing about Gravity PDF?

Two things: 1. There’s always room for growth, and 2. The workplace environment.

If you were stuck on an island what three things would you bring?

Knife, duct tape, and a lighter.

What is on your wish list for the next 2-3 years with Gravity PDF?

More clients, new software, and more teammates!

What would be the title of your autobiography?

A Chill Ride with…

What advice would you give to someone just entering this field of work?

As long as you enjoy what you’re doing, you’ll be fine.👍

How do you balance your career and family?

Two words → TIME MANAGEMENT.

What is the best thing you learned since you started working at Gravity PDF?

The beauty of OOP and Unit Testing.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I see myself as a well-versed Front and Back-end developer.

And finally, what kind of superpower would you like to have?

The ability to forget things so I can keep watching my favorite movies and series again and again. 🔁
